Level 1: Cartooning & Animation

In Cartooning & Animation, students learn about the history and techniques of illustration, cartooning and animation, a variety of different styles, and common animation company practices through a variety of studio experiences. The course includes freehand drawing and rendering, layout, and the use of basic drawing tools and various materials for the reproduction of images. Students' study uses for thematic elements, character development, design, staging and visual effects. Students will work in groups to produce animation, which is the industry standard. They will learn to use technical equipment and film their own animations. Careers in cartooning, illustration and animation will be discussed.

Advanced Animation will be FILMMAKING.
In Filmmaking, students experience both the creative and technical aspects of Animation in conjunction with learning about historical and contemporary traditions. Story writing, story-based displays (storyboards), basic visual composition, and general reproduction skills will be included with camera techniques, stop-motion animation, and hand drawn animation. Interdisciplinary experiences and arts activities lead to the refining of a personal aesthetic, and a heightened understanding of career opportunities in the arts and arts-related fields
