Russian 1-4
About the Class

Did you know that there are more than 7,000 living languages and Russian is one of the 10 most spoken languages in the world? Russian has been designated as a strategic language by the United States government, and is considered a critical language for economic and international relations, diplomacy, and the nation's competitiveness in science and technology. The demand for proficient speakers of Russian exceeds the supply, and SOCES offers a unique opportunity to learn the Russian language at school. We offer Russian 1, 2, 3 and 4 courses for everyone from non-speakers to native speakers. The UCLA Department of Heritage Languages recommends certain programs which we follow; in addition to developing Russian speaking, reading and writing skills, you will learn about the fascinating Russian culture, art, history, traditions, and more. Students who complete 4 years of Russian receive the State Seal of Biliteracy Award from the California Department of Education and LAUSD on their diploma. Whether you are looking to improve your Russian language skills or you don’t have any previous knowledge of Russian, but want to learn it, you are welcome to the Russian language classes!
